Nurturing Brain & Body: A Whole-Health Approach This June

July 3, 2025 Leave a Comment

** Nurturing Brain & Body: A Whole-Health Approach This June

June 1, 2025

June is here, bringing with it sunshine (we hope!), fresh air, and the perfect opportunity to reconnect with nature and ourselves. Whether you’re planting in the garden, going for a walk, or enjoying time with friends and family, this is the season to embrace movement and mindfulness.

As you begin to spend more time outdoors, it’s also a great time to check in with how your body feels—especially your fascial system. That’s the connective tissue that surrounds and supports your muscles, bones, and organs. This often-overlooked system plays a vital role in posture, mobility, and overall well-being.

At our clinic, we’re passionate about helping patients restore balance and movement through Myofascial Release Therapy—a gentle, hands-on approach that relieves tension, improves circulation, and supports healing at a deep, lasting level. It’s especially beneficial for those experiencing chronic pain, limited range of motion, or recovering from injury or illness.

💜 June is also Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month—a powerful reminder of how deeply connected our brain health is to the rest of the body. The fascial system and nervous system work hand-in-hand; supporting one helps nurture the other.

Whether you’re caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s, navigating your own cognitive wellness, or simply seeking ways to stay sharp and grounded, therapies like Myofascial Release can offer meaningful support—physically, mentally, and emotionally.

This month, we invite you to explore how gentle movement, outdoor connection, and therapeutic care can nourish your brain and body from the inside out.

✨ Looking for more ways to support your wellness journey? Follow us on social media for simple tips, inspiration, and reminders to stay connected to what matters most—your health, your heart, and your healing path.

Here’s to a vibrant, mindful start to the summer.

Warmly, Your FC team

Gardening with Fascia in Mind 🌱

As your garden comes alive this spring, it’s the perfect time to reconnect—with the earth, the season, and your own body. Just like your plants, your fascia—the connective tissue that links and supports every part of you—thrives when treated with care. Gardening offers a beautiful opportunity to move with purpose. By keeping your spine long, your posture aligned, and your tools within easy reach, you help protect your body from unnecessary strain and support long-term mobility. The photo shows how small shifts in posture can make a big difference. With every mindful movement, you’re not just nurturing your garden—you’re cultivating resilience in yourself. 🌸

** 🥗 Inspired by Greta Podleski’s Mediterranean Farro Salad

For a refreshing, nutrient-rich option this season, try the Mediterranean Farro Salad from Every Salad Ever by Greta Podleski—a celebrated Ontario-based author whose recipes are as nourishing as they are delicious. This hearty bowl features wholesome farro tossed with juicy cherry tomatoes, crisp cucumber, red onion, Kalamata olives, fresh herbs, and a zesty lemon-olive oil dressing. Topped with feta, it’s the perfect balance of fiber, healthy fats, and plant-based protein—supporting energy, digestion, and fascia health.

📘 As a clinic that values community and whole-body wellness, we love to highlight the work of local businesses—and Greta’s book is a staple we’re proud to share. You’ll find this beautiful recipe (and many more!) in Every Salad Ever, available online or at local bookstores. Explore more → (https://www.everysaladever.com)

** 💜 Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month

How Myofascial Release Supports Brain Health and Cognitive Wellness

June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, a time to shine a light on the importance of brain health, raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, and explore supportive approaches for cognitive wellness.

While there’s no single solution for preventing or reversing neurodegenerative conditions, there are ways to support the brain, nervous system, and whole-body function—especially when we consider how interconnected everything truly is.

One often-overlooked component of neurological health is the fascial system: the body’s connective tissue web that wraps around the brain, spinal cord, and every organ, muscle, and nerve. As we age or experience stress, trauma, or illness, the fascia can become restricted and dehydrated, affecting circulation, nerve function, and the body’s ability to self-regulate.

That’s where John F. Barnes Myofascial Release Therapy (JFB-MFR) offers unique support.

** How JFB-MFR Can Help:

* Gently unwinds fascial restrictions affecting the brain and central nervous system

* Encourages blood flow and lymphatic drainage, vital for brain detoxification

* Supports nervous system regulation and emotional calm

* Creates conditions that may enhance clarity, presence, and ease

* Offers relief from physical tension, headaches, and stress—common in caregivers and those navigating cognitive change

While Myofascial Release is not a cure for Alzheimer’s or dementia, it can be a powerful complementary therapy—supporting quality of life, relaxation, and body-mind connection for both those diagnosed and their caregivers.

💜 Whether you’re caring for a loved one or navigating your own wellness journey, know that you’re not alone—and gentle, holistic support is available.

Let’s continue raising awareness, deepening compassion, and sharing real tools for healing and connection.

** 🐾 Meet Catherine — And Learn About Our Expanding Animal Therapy Services!

We’re excited to share not just one, but two pieces of wonderful news from the clinic!

First, please join us in welcoming Catherine, our new Clinic Administrator! Catherine will be helping support our therapists and patients in the clinic—managing scheduling, coordinating care, and keeping everything flowing smoothly behind the scenes.

But there’s more! Catherine is also currently in training to become a Canine Therapist, specializing in Myofascial Release for dogs. Her deep love for animals and natural healing instincts make her a perfect fit for this work, and we’re thrilled to have her as part of our team.

Catherine’s arrival also marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the clinic:

We’re in the process of expanding our services to include canine and equine myofascial release therapy. Several of our therapists are currently undergoing training to bring this powerful, gentle healing modality to the animals in your lives.

Whether supporting an aging pet, a recovering performance horse, or simply offering maintenance care for beloved companions, we’re honored to extend the same level of compassion and skill to our four-legged clients.

Stay tuned for updates as these offerings become available—and be sure to say hello to Catherine next time you visit!

** Living with Fibromyalgia: How Myofascial Release Therapy Can Help

** What is Fibromyalgia?

Fibromyalgia is a condition that is often not well understood. It causes pain all over the body, making muscles and soft tissues tender and stiff. This pain can make even simple tasks hard to do. The exact cause of fibromyalgia is not clear, but it may be linked to the way the brain and nervous system handle pain signals. Stress, trauma, and infections can trigger or worsen the symptoms.

Common symptoms include:

* Chronic fatigue: Persistent tiredness that doesn’t improve with rest.

* Sleep disturbances: Difficulty falling or staying asleep.

* Cognitive difficulties (“fibro-fog” ): Memory problems, difficulty concentrating, and mental fatigue.

* Headaches: Frequent migraines or tension-type headaches.

* Anxiety or depression: Emotional challenges that often accompany chronic pain.

What is Myofascial Release Therapy?

Living with fibromyalgia often feels like a constant battle against your own body. This chronic condition affects millions worldwide, causing widespread pain, fatigue, sleep disturbances, and other challenging symptoms. If you or someone you care about is coping with fibromyalgia, Myofascial Release (MFR) therapy may offer relief.

Many individuals with fibromyalgia experience myofascial pain, which occurs when trigger points in the muscles or fascia (the connective tissue surrounding muscles) lead to localized discomfort. These trigger points are small, tender knots in muscle fibres that can worsen with stress, injury, or inflammation. Myofascial Release therapy specifically targets these tight areas in the fascia, helping to reduce pain and ease other symptoms associated with fibromyalgia.

** Fibromyalgia and You: How Myofascial Release Therapy Can Assist

Myofascial Release (MFR) therapy uses gentle, sustained pressure to relieve tension in the fascia—the connective tissue surrounding muscles, organs, and bones. Tight or restricted fascia can cause pain and stiffness, worsening muscle discomfort, especially in individuals with fibromyalgia. MFR helps release these restrictions, improving blood flow, reducing pain, and enhancing range of motion.

Unlike deep tissue massage, which focuses on the muscles, Myofascial Release concentrates on the fascia. The fascia plays a significant role in the pain felt by people with fibromyalgia, and by targeting these areas with gentle, sustained pressure, MFR can provide long-term relief.

** How Myofascial Release Therapy Helps Fibromyalgia

Pain Reduction: Loosens tight areas in the fascia, which lowers muscle and joint pain

Improved Circulation: Helping to reduce swelling and support healing, overall boosting circulation.

Increases Flexibility:  Eases stiffness, making it easier to move and stretch.

Less Stress & Improve Sleep: Reducing pain helps lower physical stress, promotes relaxation, and improves sleep and mental health.

Natural Healing: Helps the body heal by freeing up fascia without drugs or invasive techniques.

“The most effective treatment for fibromyalgia pain is myofascial release, which  is a manual therapy focused on breaking up fascial adhesions that cause pain. It’s also something you can do yourself! Learn how myofascial release works and the research supporting its use in treating fibromyalgia. I also talk about the different “flavors” of myofascial release, including my personal favorite the John F. Barnes’ Myofascial Release Approach”. (Dr. Ginevra Liptan M.D. and author of The Fibro Manual and Figuring out Fibromyalgia.

A Perfect Gift of Self-Care!

February 7, 2025

Valentine’s Day is a wonderful opportunity to show yourself the love and self-care you deserve. Take the time to reset, recharge, and reconnect with your inner self.

Myofascial Release Therapy (MFR) offers transformative benefits for everyone!

It can help ease chronic pain, headaches, and muscle tightness while enhancing posture, boosting circulation, and improving flexibility. This therapy allows your body to move more freely and with greater ease. The sustained, gentle pressure used during Myofascial Release Therapy helps reduce stress, promotes deep relaxation, and enhances self-awareness, allowing you to focus on you inner self.

Beyond just the physical benefits—it also promotes mental clarity and emotional well-being, leaving you feeling refreshed, balanced, and emotionally restored. We often hold onto stress, tension, and unresolved trauma in our bodies, frequently without even realizing it. Myofascial Release Therapy (MFR) targets not only physical symptoms but also helps to release emotional holding patterns that can go unnoticed. Through gentle, focused techniques, MFR works through these layers to create space for healing, addressing current pain while also allowing us to confront and release deeper past traumas. Doing so allows us to release what no longer serves us, creating space for healing and promoting overall better well-being.
