Relax and Enjoy the Dog Days of Summer

October 25, 2025 Leave a Comment

August 10, 2025

Ever wonder why they’re called the “dog days” of summer?

It’s not just about panting pups trying to stay cool. The phrase actually dates back to ancient times and refers to Sirius—the Dog Star—the brightest star in the night sky.

Sirius rises and sets with the sun during the hottest stretch of the year. The ancients believed its presence amplified the heat, giving us what we now call the dog days of summer.

A fascinating blend of astronomy, mythology, and weather—just the kind of layered connection we love exploring in the body, too.

Stay cool, stay hydrated, and be kind to your fascia (and your nervous system) this season.

Not everything needs to be squeezed into the long weekend.

If you’ve spent the last two days cramming in barbecues, social time, and maybe even a few errands—this is your permission to slow down.

Today’s the perfect day to soften into summer self-care.

Here are a few ideas to ease into the last stretch of the long weekend:

🌿 Get outdoors – Let nature do the heavy lifting. A quiet walk, a slow paddle, or just sitting in the sun can shift your whole system.

💧 Find your flow – Do something that doesn’t involve a to-do list: float in a lake, read on the porch, or stretch slowly without a plan.

📵 Unplug a little – Even an hour without your phone can bring your nervous system back online. Let quiet be the background noise.

🧘‍♀️ Practice presence – Breathwork, gentle yoga, or just lying on the grass and noticing the sky—yes, that counts as mindfulness.

💤 Rest without guilt – It’s not lazy, it’s necessary. Your fascia, nervous system, and future self will thank you.

❤️ Connect, if you want to – A slow meal with a loved one or even a spontaneous check-in can feel grounding and real.

This long weekend doesn’t have to end with a bang. It can end with a deep breath—and maybe a nap.

August Update from 2200 Prince of Wales Dr.

Much like the healing work we do in the treatment room, restoring our clinic space is a process that can’t be rushed (no matter how much we wish it could be!).

Just as fascia takes time to unwind and release, so too does a building after a fire.

While power has now been restored to neighboring 2210 Prince of Wales, our space at 2200—which sustained the most damage—remains without power.

The good news: Hydro expects restoration this coming week, and with that, repair work can finally begin.

In the meantime, we continue to operate out of Bright Moon Wellness Center, and we’re incredibly grateful for their support—and yours. Your kind words, patience, and check-ins truly mean the world as we move through this slower-than-hoped-for, but very real, healing process.

About Catherine our Office Administrator

The first couple of months of being Office Administrator here at Fascial Connections Myofascial Release and Wellness Centre certainly has been interesting. First, getting used to working in the clinic, and now adjusting to working remotely.

I’m a dog mom to Wolfie, my 3 year old pug. I’m an avid photographer. I share my home with my 80+ year old parents.

I am also a Breast Cancer survivor, diagnosed in 2023. I’m working on becoming a “thriver”, not just a “survivor’”. I had 3 surgeries and completed 8 rounds of chemotherapy.

I’ve known Tara for more that 15 years, and followed her clinic to clinic. She was the person that introduced me to Myofascial Release Therapy.

Fresh Corn (a summer favorite here at FC) is Now Available at local farmstands

A great way to enjoy Ontario corn is the next day removed from the cob and added to a salad. Each kernel distributes well into the salad and allows for the perfect amount of sweetness in every bite.

This lively summer salad pairs well with nearly any main course and is made completely from seasonal ingredients. Succulent tomatoes, sweet corn kernels, and crisp green beans are sure to delight. The charm of summer salads is in their ingredient flexibility. Feel free to incorporate any in-season vegetables, select your preferred dressing, and finish with cheese, toasted nuts, dried or fresh fruit, or fresh herbs to craft a distinctive dish tailored to your family and guests’ preferences. Take advantage of this month to experiment with the bounty of the season!

Summer Corn and Green Bean Salad

* 3 cups fresh green beans, cooked and cooled

* 3 ears Ontario corn, boiled or grilled, kernels removed from cob

* 1 pint cherry or grape tomatoes, halved

* 1/2 red onion, diced

* 1/2 cup crumbled Feta cheese

Dressing:

* 4 Tbsp olive oil

* 3 Tbsp red wine vinegar

* 1 tsp lemon zest

* 1 Tbsp fresh-squeezed lemon juice

* 2-3 garlic cloves, finely chopped

* 3/4 tsp salt

* 1/4 tsp freshly-ground black pepper

* 2 Tbsp chopped fresh mint

Serves 4-6

What To Do:

Whisk together dressing ingredients with the exception of the mint in a small bowl and allow flavours to merry while you prep salad ingredients. In a bowl, combine cooked beans, corn kernels, tomatoes, red onion and chopped mint. Pour dressing over beans and toss gently topping with feta cheese.

Celebrating 9 Years of Fascial Connections

This month marks 9 years of supporting your healing journeys—and we are filled with gratitude.

To each of you who has walked through our doors, allowed the process to unfold, and trusted the quiet power of myofascial release: thank you.

In honour of this milestone, we invite you to reflect with us.

Over the years, many of you have shared moments of profound change.

Moments when something shifted—physically, emotionally, or in your understanding of how your body holds, adapts, and heals.

If a piece of your healing journey through Myofascial Release feels meaningful to share, we’d love to hear it.

📩 Send us your story, big or small.

Whether it’s a sentence, a sensation, or a turning point—you never know who it might resonate with.

No therapist names, no identifiers—just your voice, your body’s wisdom, and the work itself.

With your permission, select reflections may be shared (anonymously) to help others better understand this work, and what’s possible when the body is truly listened to.

Thank you for helping us continue this work in the most human, heartfelt way possible.

Here’s to the next chapter—rooted in connection, curiosity, and care.
