Winter Strain? – Available Appointments Feb. 3-7

Feb 3, 2025

Find Relief with Myofascial Release Therapy

Winter can take a drastic toll on our bodies, often leaving us feeling cold, stiff, sore, and uncomfortable. In these moments, reconnect and turn your attention inward. What is your felt sense overall? Where are you drawn to? Are you feeling tension? Are you feeling an old holding pattern?  Can you soften into this area?

As snow accumulates and temperatures drop, our felt sense of our aches and pains can rise. Whether shovelling snow or navigating icy and slippery roads (driving or walking), you may experience a heightened response of pain in your hands, neck, back, shoulders, and hips. Even sitting still can strain your muscles and joints, leading to discomfort.

Taking care of yourself during these cold, blustery months is essential for maintaining your well-being.

Myofascial Release (MFR) is an effective technique that applies gentle, sustained pressure to your fascial system and the connective tissue surrounding the whole of you (muscles, bones, nerves, blood vessels, and organs). By melting and softening into these areas of heightened tension or restrictions, your muscles and body can relax, decrease tension, and improve circulation, all while increasing mobility and overall communication within your whole being, mentally, emotionally and physically.

Are you ready to melt away the winter tension?

HELPFUL HINTS (to assist you before your next appointment):

* Remember your white therapy FC ball – find a point of tenderness, wait, melt and allow the area to soften. Tune into your felt sense. What do you feel? Are there sensations of tightness, warmth, heaviness, etc? Stay there, connect and be aware of what you are experiencing in that moment. Time is your friend, wait 3-5 minutes.  You don’t need to solve it. Just let it happen!

* A gentle, slow and sustained approach to stretching or light exercises (5- 10 minutes daily) is recommended to improve blood circulation and decrease stiffness. Tune in to your body before an exercise (i.e. snow shovelling, skating/skiing, or a walk in the forest), then check back into your felt senses upon returning indoors. Use the above approach if you require a little bit of assistance in softening in those areas that are heightened.

* Stay hydrated! Drinking plenty of water throughout the day, especially after exercising, is important as this helps keep the fascia soft and pliable. If you’re feeling dehydrated, take your time to replenish your electrolytes by incorporating them into your diet or drinks. This will help keep your body in top shape by balancing fluids and preventing fatigue and cramping.

Your FC team 🙂
